Rabbi Dr. Mordecai Schornstein (1869-1949)

was the Chief Rabbi of Copenhagen, an animal lover and the founder of the Tel Aviv zoo

Mordecai was a professional Rabbi before he decided to come to Israel to fulfil his life goal: Building the first zoo in Tel aviv.

​

As I thought about how to approach drawing this amazing story, I imagined the rabbi sitting at the weekly Jewish consecration ceremony, sharing with the animals the intimate moments of the Sabbath.
